Tomorrow I’m running in my first 5K race since coming down with pneumonia last summer.
Actually, this’ll be the first time that I’ve raced at all since last summer, taking all last year to fully recover and get my legs back.
Pneumonia takes a lot out of ya, and I may’ve been just a wee bit unmotivated to really train for a race.
At any rate, this race tomorrow is at a nearby town and is part of the events celebrating 114 years of the little town’s history.
It’s not a big race, but it’s a fun one.
One of Meg’s best friends is also running it, and we’ve been trash talking each other through her texts that she gets from him.
We both ran 3.1 miles yesterday, separately, and he ran his just a minute faster than me.
Of course, I’ve got 18 years on him and creaky old knees, but I bet if push comes to shove, I could still beat him in a dead heat.
If I don’t get the giggles like I usually do in those situations.
Seriously, I get weak kneed when I’m racing with someone I know.
My siblings were forever getting me to race them because they knew I’d collapse in a giggling heap about half way through.
Tomorrow may prove interesting.
What do you have planned for the weekend?
We’re taking the kids to the movies tonight, then the race first thing tomorrow morning, then who knows what else will happen the rest of the time.
But that’s what weekends are for, right?
Adventures a-wait!

Good luck and don’t pass out from the heat!
Can you believe it was actually in the 50′s when we set out for the race? I wore a jacket while waiting around for the start! It was great! ; )
The 50′s??? Holy cow, Kate, that sounds wonderful!
oh my, you’re so brave. I’m more and more proud of knowing you and learning with you. have an extraordinary weekend sweetie.
Thank you! Hope you had a good weekend, too!
Good luck Kate, and have fun.
You’re gonna do great!!
xo.
I did have a good time–it was actually kinda cold at the start, but I finished up at 24:44, losing first place by ONE second! ; )
These pictures are just lovely.
I saw on FB that you had a good race. . . CONGRATULATIONS!!
Thank you! Yes, I did have a good race, coming in second in my age group (helps being in the Master’s division! ; ) ) with a time of 24:44. I guess it went to my head because last night I signed up for three more races: a 10K, a virtual 10-miler (it’s actually the Army 10-Miler run in Washington DC, but I run it in Arkansas every year on the same day. I just like it that much)! Then the last one I signed up for is a half marathon in December that our town puts on. Should prove to be an interesting and exhausting fall!
Beautiful pictures!!! My weekends… it will never include a 5K run!!! LOL
Well, I must be crazy then, because I signed up for a half marathon in December!
CRAZY! I enjoy swimming.. that’s my thing but I am certainly not capable of competing !!!
