Snowflakes

What is it about snow? We grouse about winter and the hazards it brings, the snow, the ice, the freezing temperatures, the snow, the snow, the snow.

But don’t you feel like an excited child when you see that first snowflake dancing its way down from the sky?  Your eyes grow big and a little grin creeps across your face. You can’t tear your eyes away from the outside world even for a couple of minutes. The noise of the day seems to slink off and quiet settles over everything.

It’s magic happening right before your eyes.

Even as I write this post, there’s snow come down outside my window. I’ve texted Meghan and David already and I danced a jig with Langley.  I feel like a kid on Christmas morning right now. I need to put away groceries and start the laundry, clean the house, but all I want to do is stare out the window with a silly ol’ grin on my face.

They crack each other up!I just wish these two were home for me to play with.

these two photos were shot back in 2011 when we had over 24 inches come down in one day. and i think mother nature snowed herself out that year because we’ve barely had any snow since. but i still get excited when we have even a small storm tip toe through our little corner of the world.

    • I just spent an hour and a half taking photos of Langley and the birds out in the snow. Groceries are still sitting on the counter and the snow is still pouring down. It’s gonna be a cozy day! : )

  1. I totally agree, Katie :) I love snow, but we haven’t gotten any since our big snow storm 2 years ago as well. Last winter we had NO snow, not at all. This winter we’ve had “a trace” about 3 or 4 times, so at least we got to see it fall and see a little white on the ground before it very quickly melted away. We keep being just on the edge of many storms, which is so frustrating :(

    • Thank you! This has been our first “decent” snowfall in quite a while. It was so pretty coming down; of course, I didn’t get anything done today but take photos and have a snowball fight with our son after he got home from school.

  2. I get excited like that for maybe the first snow of the season. After that, I scowl at the flakes and all their friends ganging up on us!
The shot of the kids is wonderful.

    • I can totally relate. That year that I took those two photos we had storm after storm dump on us, and the kids went to school for forever, making up snow days. But that day when we got those 24″+ of snow was one of the best. All of us played and played in it. : )
